Sgt Williams - Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for Dumbartonshire

Cadet Sergeant Kieran Williams (17) has been awarded the top award a cadet can gain in their Air Cadet Career, by being nominated and awarded the Lord Lieutenant of Dumbartonshire's Lord Lieutenants Cadet Award for 2015 -2016.

Kieran has also been selected to be the Lord Lieutenant's cadet where he will escort the Lord Lieutenant of Dumbartonshire, Rear Admiral Mike Gregory OBE, who is Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's representative on official duties when required. These duties could include Commemorative duties to Royal duties. Kieran received his award presented by Lord Lieutenant Mike Gregory on Thursday the 11th June 2015 at a presentation ceremony attended by various guests and high ranking Royal Air Force Officers.

Officer Commanding of 2496 Squadron Air Cadets read the citation, which stated: Cdt Flight Sergeant Williams has been a regular attendee at the Squadron for 3 years. He has progressed through all classification stages with ease and is a highly intelligent and polite individual. He has shown a desire to join the Royal Air Force in a Commissioned Officer role. Kieran has demonstrated the ethos and values of the Air cadet Organisation by accepting tasks, guiding younger peers and offering encouragement to junior cadets in drill, flight simulator training and shows tenacity when dealing with a cadet who is struggling to cope with a task or activity.

During his time with Cumbernauld Squadron he has attended various annual camps and numerous adventure training camps. Kieran regularly gives up his free time to attend many extra-curricular squadron activities and is involved in assisting to construct the new world war one memorial garden working with Cumbernauld Environmental Society. He also attends community gala days and charity fundraising events to assist in the communities the squadron operates within.

Within the Squadron Cadet Sergeant Williams is a popular character and is a very highly respected member of the senior cadet community and has the respect of his peers. He gets on well with the adult staff at the squadron and is outgoing. Kieran has excellent verbal communication skills and can engage with anyone he meets at events and chats freely to them about life as a cadet. Flight Lieutenant Cairns stated that "We are all extremely proud of Kieran and all that he has achieved and we are delighted he has received this award".

Lord Lieutenant Rear Admiral Mike Gregory stated that "This award is an extremely important one and Kieran had to go through a rigorous selection process to achieve the award and it recognises the efforts of young people in the cadet forces for their contribution to the organisation, communities and charities in the field of citizenship. He is a truly worthy candidate and I am delighted to be presenting him with this award".
